Week One

Jim Henson Inspired Animated Puppet Theater

Students will kick off the summer by creating their own original animated puppet show! Using the master Jim Henson as an inspiration, students will create their own puppet focussed characters and sets. They will collaborate to make a unique story inspired by classic puppet plays! Students will bring these puppet stories to life through the use of stop motion animation to create a unique twist on puppet theater!

Week Two

Animated Dreamworlds: Stop Motion Animation and the Imagination

In this one week course it is perfectly fine to daydream. Students will create a story that takes place within a dream. They will use various found objects and materials to create the wacky characters we see in our dreams and bring them to life using stop motion animation.

Week Three

Calamitous Clay Creatures!

Claymation is a famous tradition in stop motion animation. Students in this class will design, sculpt and animate with their own creative clay creatures. In a world inspired by films like Zootopia, they will create their own animal centered world and explore its possibilities! Students will use these creatures to explore storytelling techniques in animation.

Camps are held at PS 89.

Completed films will be shown in the 2018 Festival.

Week One

Claymation Creepy Crawlers!

In this week long insect inspired course, students will get some hands on experience experimenting with claymation. They will design, sculpt, and mold clay to create their own one-of-a-kind insect characters and props. They will use claymation to explore storytelling techniques using the characters they create and create an original short film inspired by films such as James and the Giant Peach.

 

Week Two

Monster Movies

Inspired by classic Monster Movies, students will collaborate to create their own spooky story! They will design, create and animate their own characters and sets. The film will be shot in black and white to create the feeling of a classic horror film. Throughout this class, students will explore classic tricks used by the masters of monster movies.

 

Week Three

Original Origami

Inspired by the Japanese art of origami, students will explore the art of storytelling through folded paper. They will use different papers to create collaged backgrounds and characters inspired by the look of classic origami. Students will use stop motion to animate their paper creations.

Week One

Make a Music Video – Pixilation

Students in this one week course will explore the technique of pixilation to create their own music video. Students will create an original music video, but instead of animated puppets, they will be animating themselves and each other! They will also create sets and props to be used in the animation. By the end of the week students will have created a fun creative music video using stop motion animation.

Weeks Two and Three

Inspired By The Masters: Laika Studios

In this two week master class, students will explore the unique style of master animation studio Laika. As the creator of some of the most popular stop motion films (Coraline, Paranorman, Boxtrolls, & Kubo and the Two Strings), Laika studios has mastered the art of stop motion animation. Students will explore the style and techniques of their films and will use this as inspiration to create their own story, sets, and characters. Students will be using clay, fabric, and replacement faces to create unique stop motion puppets inspired by some of their favorite characters!

Camp will be held at PS 89

Completed films will be shown in the 2018 Festival.
